Cape Verde is the oldest independent country in Africa and one of the oldest in the world. |
| Geography: |
The mountainous plateau that dominates the country comprises two principal regions: the Western and Eastern Highlands, divided by the Great Rift Valley. Deep gorges surround the high tablelands including the Blue Nile River gorge. In the eastern uplands, the Bale Massif separates the courses of the Genale and Shebele rivers. The fertile alluvial silts of the Blue Nile and the rich basaltic loams of the highlands are both extensively cultivated. |
| Flag: |
The current flag and emblem were adopted after the defeat of the Marxist Mengistu regime. The emblem at the centre is intended to represent both the unity and diversity of the country. To print flag below, right-click and select "open image in new window", then print in landscape mode. |
