Fiji comprises two main islands, both of volcanic origin, and over 330 smaller
islands and a further 500 islets, all south of the equator. Most of the islands
exhibit sharp rugged relief. Climate is tropical but subject to moderating ocean
influences, generally wetter in the east, drier in the west. The Fijiian economy
is based on agriculture (mainly sugar), fishing, forestry and tourism. |
