Official Name :

DOWLAT AL KUWAIT (State of Kuwait)

Land Area: 17,820 square kilometres / 6,879 square miles.
Population: 2,336,000 (est July 2005 -includes 1.2 million non-nationals).
Languages: Arabic (official), Farsi, English.
Religions: Sunni Muslin 45%, Shi'ite Muslim 30%, Christian 5%.
Capital: Kuwait City . Population 60,000
Currency: Kuwaiti dinar, divided into 1000 fils.
Independant: 19 June 1961, from UK.
Geography: The terrain is mostly low lying plateau to slightly undulating desert plain, rising westward to a maximum elevation of 290 metres in the south west at Ash Shaqaya. The southwestern border with Iraq is incised by the Wadi al Batin. About 93% of Kuwait is stony desert, with less than 1% arable land.
