To the north, the semiarid Guban coastal plain is backed by a mountainous belt stretching from the easternmost tip of the horn to the northwestern tip of the Ethiopian border. To the south, the arid coastal plain rises inland to the Haud Plateau and the flat land of the deep south. Between the Jubba and the Shabelle rivers, the soils are fertile with a considerable area of pasture. |
