Political:In Darfur, over a million poeple are exposed to torture and death at the hands of marauding militia and a complicit Sudanese government. So far (May 04) no nation has 'officially' acknowledged what is happening. In this void, the Sudanese government continues to act with impunity.
Geography:The largest country on the African continent. The northern part of the country consists of barren rocky Saharan desert plain, stretching westwards to an area of sand dunes and rising further south at the Marra Mountains in the Dufur Massif. Other highland areas include the Nuba Mountains, Red Sea coastal region and the Imatong Mountains in the far south, bordering Kenya and Uganda.
