| Geography: | The narrow coastal lowland climbs to about 1000 metres to the Massai Steppe. The Rift system divides into two branches just north of Lake Malawi, to the east of Lake Victoria. The eastern arm of the Rift Valley traverses the length of the country containing Lakes Natron, Manyara, Eyasi and the Serengeti National Park, while the western arm skirts the Congo (Zaire) border containing Lakes Tanganyika and Rukwa.
