| Geography: | Running
between the high peaks of the Tunisian Dorsal and the Kroumirie Mountains, is
the Mejerda, Tunisia's only perennial river. This valley was once the granary
of ancient Rome, and today still the richest grain producing area. The south is
marked by a series of chotts (salt lake depressions) that are only filled after
heavy rain. Further south is largely sandy desert, much of it part of the Great
Eastern Erg. |
