Official Name : REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA.
Total Area: 752, 618 square kilometres.
Population: 13, 881, 000 (2011 estimate).
Languages: English (official), Bemba, Tonga, Nyanja, Lunda and others including 65 local languages.
Religions: Traditional 70%, Christian 30%.
Capital: Lusaka. Population 1.4 million (2009)
Currency: kwacha, subdivided into 100 ngwee.
Independant: 24 October 1964, Zambia declared independence from the United Kingdom.
Geography: Most of Zambean territory comprises of an elevated plateau with isolated peaks and hill ranges rising in the north to 1800m at Chimbwingombi and 2067m SE of Lake Tanganyika In the northern part of the country a number of rivers drain southwards to join the Zambezi river. This river defines part of the Zambezi/Zambia border. Navigation is impeded by it's torential rapids and falls including the Victoris Falls in the South East.
